Programming procedures
What the job needs
- Add a key: 1 existing working key required.
- All keys lost: no existing working key needed.
- PIN / security code: See risks for PIN source.
- Online / server access: not required (offline programming).
- On-board (no tool) sequence: possible for this case.
- On site: engine off · n/a.
- Bring: Photo ID + vehicle registration. VIN for code-cut if no working key available (Isuzu VIN-derived bitting code service from National Auto Lock Service / Strattec).
Notes & cautions
- This chassis (Passport 1, 1994-1997 NA MY) is a rebadged 2nd-gen Isuzu Rodeo (UC chassis). Standard pre-IMMO era — NO transponder chip, NO immobilizer module, NO factory remote/RKE. Confirmed via The Keyless Shop: "Hondas ranging from 1985-1995 typically used bladed keys without transponder chips" and 1st-gen Passport falls entirely in this pre-transponder window. Verify trim — DX, LX, EX all use the same key system on this variant.
- Honda HD-series blade family DOES NOT fit Passport 1 — Isuzu-origin keyway only. Honda parts catalog has no Passport 1 key SKU because the entire ignition group is private-label Isuzu (Honda Lock Mfg did NOT supply this platform). Aftermarket only: Ilco / Itron / JMA / Silca cross-references to Isuzu Rodeo (UC).
- Mid-cycle keyway change at 1995 model year on this chassis spans two blank profiles: 1994 to mid-1995 = Ilco B74 / X198 (also Isuzu Rodeo 1991-1995, Pickup 1990-1995, Amigo 1990-1993); late-1995 through 1997 = Ilco B65 / X184 (also Isuzu Rodeo 1995-1997). Verify chip before — confirm year + check existing key bitting profile before cutting blank. Wrong blank cannot be re-cut.
- AKL on a pre-IMMO mechanical-only Isuzu Rodeo platform: NO OBD path, NO programming, NO scan tool involvement. Pure mechanical locksmithing. Options: (a) pick + decode ignition cylinder, (b) impression a blank, (c) remove + disassemble ignition cylinder to read wafer codes, (d) request bitting code from Isuzu VIN service if VIN sticker still readable.
- Isuzu Rodeo / Passport 1 ignition cylinder is wafer-style (5-wafer typical), pickable with standard tension wrench + raking pick set. Locksmiths familiar with 1990s Japanese platforms find this trivial. Pick + decode typically <10 minutes by an experienced tech.
- NO transponder = no risk of bricking any electronic module. NO IMMO DTC will be set. The only failure mode is using the wrong blank profile (B74 vs B65) — verify against the original cylinder wafers, not just year.
