Aftermarket Add Key requires VVDI MB Tool + W204 EIS adapter + tokens OR Autel IM608 Pro II + IMKPA + G-Box3 OR CGDI MB (NEC-era specialty).
- On site: engine off · 13V+ aux + charger · Clear EIS + DAS DTCs.
- Bring: Photo ID + vehicle registration. Title strongly recommended for AKL. VIN cross-check (W204 is widely-counterfeited body — verify VIN-stamp).

Notes & cautions
- This chassis (W204 C-Class, 2008-2014) is Mercedes FBS3 NEC EIS era — the predecessor to W205 FBS4 BGA. NEC processor on the EIS (not BGA) means OBD AKL path is significantly more accessible than FBS4. Two FBS3 sub-eras within W204: 2008-2010 early NEC EIS (Hella-supplied modules with simpler password derivation), 2011-2014 late NEC EIS (added security counters but still OBD-friendly). Verify trim + production date — wrong FCC key will not pair even within W204 family.
- FBS3 NEC on this variant requires EITHER Autel IM608 Pro II + IMKPA + G-Box3 (OBD path, no per-job tokens — IMKPA subscription includes Mercedes password calc) OR Xhorse VVDI MB Tool + W204 EIS adapter cable (token-based: 1 free daily from Xhorse Dolphin + ~$5 paid per job) OR CGDI MB (NEC-era specialty tool, no tokens, ~$1200 hardware). FBS3 NEC password calc is ~10-30 seconds online vs 5-10 minutes for FBS4 BGA — significantly faster aftermarket workflow.
- W204 AKL is OBD-friendly on most builds — bench EIS removal NOT typically required (unlike FBS4 BGA). Exception: W204 builds with damaged EIS (water ingress, electrical fault) require bench EEPROM read via Autel XP400 PRO or Xhorse VVDI Prog. Verify EIS firmware via XENTRY scan before quoting bench-vs-OBD pricing. AMG C63 W204 variants share standard EIS architecture — no AMG-specific quirk on FBS3 era.
- AKL on this chassis erases all previously paired FBS3 keys. Bring minimum 2 new Mercedes FBS3 NEC keys matching trim FCC (IYZDC07 for 2008-2011 OR IYZDC11 for 2012-2014). Wrong FCC means scheduled job cannot start.
- W204 AKL is OBD-friendly compared to FBS4 BGA siblings — full 2008-2014 run supports OBD AKL via Autel IM608 + IMKPA + G-Box3 or Xhorse VVDI MB / Key Tool Plus + W204 EIS cable. Bench EIS removal only required for damaged-EIS scenarios (water ingress, electrical fault) or if OBD comm to EIS fails repeatedly. Bench job adds ~30-45 min vs OBD.
- AKL erases EIS-paired remotes. Recovered old keys will not authenticate — customer must be informed. Verify trim before scheduling: C300 / C350 / C63 AMG all share W204 EIS architecture, no AMG-specific quirk on FBS3 era (unlike newer W205/W213 AMG variants). 2008-2010 W204 with NEC-era Hella EIS may have minor password-calc differences vs 2011-2014 — IMKPA + Xhorse both auto-detect.
