- On-board (no tool) sequence: not available — 2007-2012 X164 GL-Class has no DIY onboard programming. Mercedes XENTRY / DAS3 dealer relearn requires SCN coding certificate. Aftermarket Add Key requires VVDI MB Tool + W164/X164 EIS adapter + tokens OR Autel IM608 Pro II + IMKPA + G-Box3 OR CGDI MB.
- On site: engine off · 13V+ aux + charger · Clear EIS + DAS DTCs.
- Bring: Photo ID + vehicle registration. Title strongly recommended for AKL. VIN cross-check (W204 is widely-counterfeited body — verify VIN-stamp).

Notes & cautions
- This chassis (X164 GL-Class, 2007-2012) is Mercedes FBS3 NEC EIS era — 7-seat full-size SUV sibling of W164 M-Class. X164 shares EIS architecture and key system with W164: same EIS adapter cable, same key PN family, same tool workflow. GL450 / GL550 / GL63 AMG all on standard X164 EIS — no AMG-specific quirk.
- FBS3 NEC on this variant (X164 GL-Class) requires EITHER Autel IM608 Pro II + IMKPA + G-Box3 (OBD path) OR Xhorse VVDI MB Tool / Key Tool Plus + W164/X164 EIS adapter cable (shared SKU with W164 M-Class) OR CGDI MB. X164 is widely-supported on all major FBS3 aftermarket tools.
- X164 AKL is OBD-friendly on full 2007-2012 run. Bench EIS removal only needed for damaged-EIS scenarios. Full-size SUV chassis — verify EIS integrity especially on water-damaged units (W164/X164 EIS water ingress is documented failure mode). GL63 AMG shares standard EIS — no quirk.
- AKL on this chassis erases all previously paired FBS3 keys. Bring minimum 2 new Mercedes FBS3 NEC keys FCC IYZDC07. Wrong FCC means scheduled job cannot start.
- X164 AKL is OBD-friendly compared to X166 FBS4 — full 2007-2012 run supports OBD AKL via Autel IM608 + IMKPA + G-Box3 or Xhorse VVDI MB / Key Tool Plus + W164/X164 EIS cable. Verify EIS integrity before OBD attempt (SUV water ingress risk).
- AKL erases EIS-paired remotes. Recovered old keys will not authenticate. Verify trim: GL320 CDI / GL350 / GL450 / GL550 / GL63 AMG all share X164 EIS architecture (same as W164). 2007-2009 early X164 with first-gen Hella EIS may need slightly different password-calc — IMKPA + Xhorse both auto-detect.
