Programming procedures
What the job needs
- Add a key: 1 existing working key required.
- All keys lost: no existing working key needed.
- PIN / security code: See risks for PIN source.
- Online / server access: not required (offline programming).
- On-board (no tool) sequence: possible for this case.
- On site: engine off · n/a.
- Bring: Photo ID + vehicle registration. VIN for code-cut if no working key available (no NASTF VSP required — pre-IMMO).
Notes & cautions
- This chassis (Hyundai Tiburon RD, 1st gen, 1997-2001 NA) is PRE-IMMO mechanical-only. NO transponder chip, NO immobilizer module, NO factory remote/RKE. Hyundai Smartra IMMO did not arrive on Tiburon until the GK generation (2003-2008). Verify trim — all RD trims (FX coupe variant included) use HY14 mechanical only.
- HY14 blade family (also Ilco HY14, JMA HY-2D, Curtis HY14) — same blade as 1995-1999 Accent X3 (sibling pre-IMMO era). NO Honda HD blade compatibility (different Korean wafer profile).
- Some 1999-2001 RD Tiburon in export markets received aftermarket immobilizer kits — NA-spec has none. Verify chip before — visually inspect existing key bow for transponder pocket. Pure cut blade = no chip = no programming needed.
- AKL on this chassis is pure mechanical locksmithing on a pre-IMMO Hyundai Tiburon RD. NO OBD path, NO programming, NO scan tool involvement. Options: (a) pick wafer cylinder + decode, (b) impression a blank, (c) remove + disassemble ignition cylinder, (d) Hyundai/Strattec VIN bitting code service.
- Wafer-style cylinder (5-wafer typical) is pickable with tension wrench + raking pick set. Locksmiths familiar with 1990s Korean platforms find this straightforward — pick + decode typically <10 min by experienced tech.
- NO transponder on this variant = no risk of bricking any electronic module. NO IMMO DTC. The only failure mode is wrong blank profile (HY14 vs HY15) — verify against original cylinder wafers.
Lockout
Door pick / decode: Lishi HY15 (CW).
